How to Use NinjaTrader 8 Market Replay Feature

The Market Replay feature in NinjaTrader 8 allows you to practice trading using historical market data as if it were happening in real-time. This is an excellent way to refine your strategies or test indicators before going live. Follow these step-by-step instructions to get started:

  1. Open NinjaTrader 8
    Launch the platform and ensure you are in the Control Center.
  2. Go to Tools → Historical Data
    In the Control Center, click on Tools from the top menu, then choose Historical Data.
  3. Select the Market Replay Data Tab
    Within the Historical Data window, navigate to the Load section and click on the Market Replay tab.
  4. Download Replay Data
    You can manually download replay data here, or simply purchase a ready-to-use replay package below:
  5. Import Your Replay Data
    Once downloaded, place the files into the NinjaTrader 8 replay data directory:
    Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\data
  6. Switch to Market Replay Mode
    On the Control Center, locate the Connections menu, then choose Playback Connection → Market Replay.
  7. Open the Playback Control
    Go to Tools → Playback. A new window will appear allowing you to choose a date and control playback speed.
  8. Start Trading
    Load charts, strategies, or DOM windows as usual, and begin trading with full simulation capabilities using historical tick data.
