PIKTradeSentinel — The Complete User Guide

Claude AI reads your NinjaTrader 8 chart like a desk trader — market reads, trade grading, position management, an AI opportunity scan, live alerts, BOS/CHoCH structure on the chart and a journal of your real trades.

PIKTradeSentinel AI panel on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

PIKTradeSentinel AI panel on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

Every chart carries more information than one trader can weigh in real time: VWAP and its bands, the value area, daily, weekly and monthly pivots, higher-timeframe trend, swing structure, resting liquidity, order flow, the news calendar, the correlated market — and the indicators you already rely on. PIKTradeSentinel pulls all of it into one briefing, hands it to Claude, Anthropic’s AI model, and comes back in seconds with a clear, structured answer — and draws the levels it talks about straight onto your chart.

This guide walks through everything: install and activation, connecting Claude, every button on the panel, the AI Opportunity Scan, Sentinel Watch alerts, market structure on the chart, the journal, costs, every setting, and troubleshooting.

What Is PIKTradeSentinel?

PIKTradeSentinel is an indicator for NinjaTrader 8 that puts an AI trading assistant in a floating panel on your chart. You click a button — or just type a question — and it:

  • Reads the market: a bias with the reason, the key levels, a plan and the risks, in plain language.
  • Grades your trade idea: enter direction, entry, stop and target and get a verdict (Take / Caution / Avoid), a grade A–F and better prices.
  • Manages your open position: Hold, Trail stop, Take partials or Exit, with concrete prices.
  • Scans for setups on a timer: “Possible Long Opportunity Here” or “Possible Short Opportunity Here”, with entry, stop and target.
  • Watches the chart for you: level touches, structure breaks, liquidity sweeps, FVG tags, timeframe alignment and upcoming news.
  • Draws structure: BOS and CHoCH lines and HH / HL / LH / LL swing labels, right on the candles.
  • Keeps a journal of your real trades from your account’s fills — and shows how accurate the AI’s reads have been.

It never places, modifies or cancels orders. It reads, analyses, alerts and draws — you stay in control of every trade.

What You Need

  • NinjaTrader 8 (current release) on Windows 10 or 11.
  • An Anthropic API account with a few dollars of credit — sign up at console.anthropic.com. You pay Anthropic directly for AI usage, typically cents per read (see What It Costs to Run below).
  • An internet connection that allows api.anthropic.com.
  • Optional: Tick Replay on your chart for full order-flow history, and Level 2 data for order-book readings.

Instant Download & Install

Your download is available the moment your order clears — from your confirmation email and account. Installing into NinjaTrader 8 takes under a minute:

  1. Download the PIKTradeSentinel file from your confirmation email or account.
  2. In NinjaTrader, open the Control Center → Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On…
  3. Select the downloaded file and let NinjaTrader import it.
  4. Open a chart (any instrument and timeframe — 1 to 5 minute charts are ideal), right-click → Indicators, open the PIKINDICATORS folder, add PIKTradeSentinel and click OK.
  5. The first time, the License Agreement opens. Read it and accept it — the indicator stays locked until you do.

Tip: load enough history

Load at least 15 days of data so weekly pivots are available, or 45 days for monthly pivots (right-click the chart → Data Series → Load data based on: Days).

Activating Your License (Machine ID)

PIK indicators are licensed to your machine. Activation is a quick, one-time step:

  1. Find your Machine ID in NinjaTrader (Control Center → Help → About, or as shown on the activation page).
  2. Submit it through our activation form using the link below.
  3. Once processed, your indicator is fully unlocked on that machine.
Activate — Submit Your Machine ID →

Connecting Claude (Your API Key)

The first time the panel opens without a key, it shows the Setup card:

  1. At console.anthropic.com, go to Settings → API Keys, create a key and copy it (it starts with sk-ant-). Add a few dollars of credit under Billing.
  2. Paste the key into the Setup card and click Save Key.
  3. The panel runs Test Connection automatically. Connected ✓ means you’re ready.

Your key is stored in your Windows user profile (the ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable) — not in NinjaTrader workspaces or templates — and every chart shares it. Reopen the card any time with Setup on the panel.

Keep your key private

Never paste your API key into chat, screenshots or support emails. The Copy Diagnostics button never includes it.

What It Costs to Run

PIKTradeSentinel has no usage fees of its own. Each AI request is billed by Anthropic to your account, based on the amount of text sent and received. Typical costs at Anthropic list prices:

Action Model (default) Typical cost
Get AI Read, Ask, Trade Check or Manage (with chart image) Claude Opus 5.5 about 2–4¢
Same, on the balanced model (change Model ID) Claude Sonnet 5.5 about 1–2¢
Quick Read Claude Haiku 5.5 well under 1¢
Sentinel Watch alert note Claude Haiku 5.5 well under 1¢
AI Scan, every 10 minutes through a 7-hour session Claude Haiku 5.5 about 10–30¢ a day

Click Usage & Cost on the panel for your real numbers: today’s and this month’s spend, your average request, a monthly projection and what the same usage would cost on cheaper models. You can set a Monthly budget (warning at 80%) and turn on Stop at budget.

To spend less: use Quick Read for fast check-ins, switch Model ID to claude-sonnet-5-5, turn off Send chart screenshot, or raise the Cooldown.

The Panel at a Glance

The panel floats over the top-left of your chart. Drag it by its title, resize it with the grip in the bottom-right corner, or collapse it with —.

Area What it does
Header Instrument and timeframe. ○ AI Scan turns the AI Opportunity Scan on or off (it counts down to the next scan). ○ Watch turns Sentinel Watch on or off.
Chips Live context: VWAP position, timeframe alignment, market structure, ATR, relative volume, news warnings, order flow, your spend and your journal stats.
Alerts strip The latest Sentinel Watch alerts and AI Scan setups (green = long, red = short).
AI Answers Every answer you ask for, newest on top, each with a time stamp and separated by a +-+-+ line, so you can scroll back through the session. A small Clear button empties it.
AI Scan Results Below the answers: every scan result with its time stamp. Setups are marked with a green or red bar. Never cleared automatically — it has its own Clear button. Drag the divider to resize the two sections.
Main buttons Get AI Read, Trade Check, Manage, Ask.
Small buttons Quick Read · Copy · Clear Lines · Structure · Journal · Usage & Cost · Setup.
Footer Status, plus the cost, size and time of the last request.

Get AI Read & Quick Read

Get AI Read sends a full briefing of your chart, plus a screenshot, and returns a structured read. Headlines are colour-coded — green for bullish, amber for neutral, red for bearish:

Bias: Neutral — price inside value, under the 60m resistance
Levels: 29,178.25 VAH / weekly R1 above; 29,140.50 VAL below
Plan: Long only on acceptance above 29,178, targeting 29,205
Risk: Lunch chop — size down; CPI in 2 hours

The key levels it mentions are drawn on the chart with labelled price tags at the right edge. Clear Lines removes them.

Quick Read gives a two-line bias using the fast, low-cost Quick model, without a screenshot — ideal for frequent check-ins.

Asking Questions

Type in the box and press Enter. The AI remembers your last few questions, so follow-ups work. Try:

  • “Where is the weekly pivot?” — it answers and draws it.
  • “Show me the nearest liquidity above and below.”
  • “What does the 60-minute structure look like?”
  • “Is NQ leading or lagging ES today?”
  • “What is my PIK indicator showing right now?”
  • “Is order flow confirming this push?”

Press Esc while typing to hand keyboard focus back to the chart.

Trade Check — Grade a Trade Before You Take It

PIKTradeSentinel Trade Check on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

PIKTradeSentinel Trade Check on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

  1. Click Trade Check. The form opens pre-filled at the live price with an ATR-based stop and target.
  2. Choose Long or Short and set quantity, entry, stop and target. Risk, reward (in ticks and dollars) and R:R update as you type.
  3. Optionally type a note in the question box (e.g. “fading the open”).
  4. Click Check This Trade.

You get a Verdict (Take / Caution / Avoid), a Grade A–F and concrete suggestions for the stop and target, judged against every level on your chart, the higher timeframes, volatility and order flow. Your entry, stop and target are drawn on the chart, plus up to three levels behind the AI’s suggestions.

A check is not a trade

Trade Check never adds anything to your journal on its own. If you then actually take the trade — same direction, near the planned entry, within 30 minutes — the journal entry for that real trade carries the AI’s verdict, grade and your planned stop.

Manage — Advice on Your Open Position

PIKTradeSentinel Manage, Quick Read and Journal

PIKTradeSentinel Manage, Quick Read and Journal

When you hold a position on the chart’s instrument, click Manage. The AI sees your side, size, average price, open P&L and working stop and target orders, and answers with an Action — Hold, Trail stop, Take partials or Exit — with specific prices. It also tells you if you have no stop working.

PIKTradeSentinel only reads your position and advises; it never touches your orders. Set Account name in the settings if you trade several accounts.

AI Opportunity Scan

Click ○ AI Scan in the header (it turns to ◉ Scan 5m and counts down). On a timer, Claude reads the chart and decides whether there is a good long or short opportunity right now. When there is, you get:

  • “Possible Long Opportunity Here” or “Possible Short Opportunity Here” with the suggested entry, stop, target, confidence and a one-line reason — in the alert strip and the AI Scan Results section.
  • A sound and an entry in NinjaTrader’s Alerts Log.
  • A green up-arrow or red down-arrow with the message on the chart.
  • A Discord post, if you set a webhook.

Every scan, including “no setup”, is logged with its time and reason in the AI Scan Results section. Claude is told that most scans should honestly come back with no setup — it only flags a clear trigger, a logical stop beyond a level and at least 1.5R of room.

Trading style Scans every
Scalper 5 minutes
Day trader 10 minutes
Swing 30 minutes
Custom 10 minutes (or set Scan every)

Keeping cost and noise down: scans use the low-cost Quick model unless you turn on Use main model for scans. They pause while no trades are coming in (market closed or quiet) and when your monthly budget is reached. There is a daily cap (default 100), alerts below Minimum confidence (default Medium) are skipped, and the same direction is not repeated within 30 minutes.

A scan alert is a prompt to look

Not a signal to trade. Run a Trade Check on the idea, and always use your own judgement and risk management.

Sentinel Watch — Alerts While You Look Away

Sentinel Watch alerts on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

Sentinel Watch alerts on a NinjaTrader 8 chart

Click ○ Watch in the header (it turns to ◉ Watching). On every closed bar it checks, at no cost:

  • Price touching a level the AI drew
  • A break of structure (BOS) or change of character (CHoCH)
  • Equal highs or lows being swept or broken
  • A fair-value gap being tagged (off by default — can be frequent on fast charts)
  • All timeframes lining up bullish or bearish
  • High-impact news coming up (default 10 minutes before)

Each alert plays a sound, appears in NinjaTrader’s Alerts Log and the panel’s alert strip, and can post to Discord. For market events the Quick model adds a two-sentence note on what it means. Notes are capped per day (default 25); alerts keep firing after the cap, without a note.

Market Structure on the Chart (BOS & CHoCH)

PIKTradeSentinel draws market structure straight onto your candles — the same structure the AI reads, so the chart and the AI always agree:

  • BOS (break of structure, blue) — a close through the last swing in the direction of the trend. A dashed line runs from the swing to the breaking bar, with a rounded BOS label above it for breaks up and below it for breaks down.
  • CHoCH (change of character, red) — the first break against the trend, often the earliest sign of a reversal.
  • Swing labels — HH and HL (higher high, higher low) in green, LH and LL (lower high, lower low) in red, with a dot on each swing. Equal highs and lows show as EQH and EQL.

Turn it on or off with Structure on the panel (it shows Structure ✓ when on). Swing size follows your trading style by default — 3 bars each side for Scalper, 5 for Day trader and Swing; raise it for fewer, bigger swings. A swing is confirmed only after that many bars close, so the newest swing appears a few bars late — and it never repaints once drawn. Colours and label size are adjustable.

The Journal & AI Accuracy

PIKTradeSentinel keeps score automatically — on your real trades, not hypothetical ones:

  • Real trades only. Every fill in your account on the chart’s instrument is tracked from the first fill until you are flat again, scaling in and out included. Results use your actual average entry and exit prices (before commissions).
  • R multiples are measured against the Trade Check’s stop when you checked the trade first, otherwise against your first working stop order.
  • Restarts are handled. Positions already open when NinjaTrader starts are picked up. A trade that closed while no chart was running is marked “exit not seen” and left out of the stats.
  • AI reads are scored after a set number of bars (default 30): a Bullish or Bearish read is “right” if price moved at least half an ATR that way.

Click Journal for your win rate, net P&L, average R, results by direction, with vs. against higher-timeframe alignment, checked vs. unchecked trades, results by AI verdict, and the AI’s read accuracy. Once there is enough history, the AI also receives your track record and tailors its advice — for example warning you when you’re about to repeat a pattern that has been costing you.

Files are stored in Documents\NinjaTrader 8\PIKTradeSentinel\ (live_trades.csv, reads.csv, usage.csv) and open directly in Excel.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Start with Get AI Read at the open and after big moves; use Quick Read for fast check-ins in between.
  • Trade Check every idea before you enter — then take the trade within 30 minutes so the journal links the AI’s verdict to your real result.
  • Use AI Scan with Watch: Watch catches the events for free; the scan looks for complete setups. Treat both as prompts to look, not orders.
  • Match the trading style to your chart and holding time — it changes the timeframes, swing size and scan interval at once.
  • Ask follow-ups. “Why not short there?” or “Where would you put the stop?” get specific, level-based answers.
  • Watch your spend in Usage & Cost, and set a monthly budget if you run several charts.
  • Review the Journal weekly — checked vs. unchecked trades and results by AI verdict show where the assistant helps you most.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it place trades?

No. It reads, analyses, alerts and draws. It never places, modifies or cancels orders.

Do I need my own Claude account?

Yes — an Anthropic API account (console.anthropic.com), which is separate from a Claude.ai chat subscription. You pay Anthropic directly for usage, typically a few cents per full read and a fraction of a cent for Quick Reads and scans.

Is my data private?

Chart data, the screenshot and your questions go from your PC directly to Anthropic’s API under your own account and Anthropic’s commercial terms. Nothing is sent to PriceIsKing. Your journal and usage files stay on your computer.

Which markets does it work on?

Any instrument and bar type NinjaTrader supports. The session clock, calendar defaults and correlated-market pairing are tuned for US index futures such as ES, NQ, MNQ and MES; adjust the settings for other markets.

Can I use it on several charts?

Yes. Each chart has its own panel; the API key, usage log, calendar cache and journal are shared.

Does the structure repaint?

No. A swing is confirmed only after the set number of bars close, and once a BOS, CHoCH or swing label is drawn it stays.

Why does the AI sometimes say something is “not available”?

It is instructed never to invent prices. If a level isn’t in the data it received — for example weekly pivots without enough history — it says so instead of guessing.

Is it prop-firm safe?

PIKTradeSentinel is an analysis and charting indicator with no order-execution logic, so it isn’t an automated trading system. As always, confirm your prop firm’s policy on third-party NinjaScript and AI tools.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes — use the 2-day free trial on your own charts. Because it is a digital product, purchases are non-refundable; see our Refund Policy.
